Description

Based on a true story! Travel to Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania, where a man murders five Amish girls in a senseless schoolhouse shooting before taking his own life. Through the eyes of a grieving mother, the film explores the Amish community's reaction---particularly how they extend unconditional forgiveness and support to the gunman's widow. Stars Kimberly Williams-Paisley. Closed captions. Approx. 97 minutes.

The Amish school shooting was a shooting at the West Nickel Mines School, an Amish one-room schoolhouse in the Old Order Amish community of Nickel Mines, a village in Bart Township of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, on October 2, 2006.
Gunman Charles Carl Roberts took hostages and eventually shot ten girls (aged 6–13), killing five, before committing suicide in the schoolhouse.

The emphasis on forgiveness and reconciliation in the response of the Amish community was widely discussed in the national media. The West Nickel Mines School was torn down, and a new one-room schoolhouse, the New Hope School, was built at another location.

This is a great movie. Put together professionally and in a way that is respectful to those involved with this horrible event in our history. It certainly touched me and challenged me and my attitude towards forgiveness. While your watching the movie, I would also recommend reading the book the film was based on (Also called "Amish Grace".)

I was touched by the message behind the story of this family about forgiveness. It was overwhelming as I watched how God turned a tragedy into a fantastic testimony. It is an amazing true story that has impacted my life and would highly recommend to everyone!
