In 1994, Heidi and Rolland Baker arrive in Mozambique, right in the middle of the hard times after the Mozambique civil war. It was not even safe for Red Cross trucks for there were bombed as well.
Until then Heidi and Rolland had worked as missionaries in China.
After hearing about the situation in Mozambique, they decided to go there and work with the poorest of the poor. They make a difference by adopting a poor orphanage in declining state. The children have all kind of diseases and eat rats to stay alive. Heidi and Rolland start to take care of the children: they educate and feed them and, inspired by their faith, pray for their healing.
During those hard times and sometimes even threatened by death, Heidi and Rolland experienced amazing miracles: healing of blind and crippled children, and even those with AIDS.

Currently, Heidi and Rolland manage an orphanage with about 500 children. They welcome new children weekly and try to find good foster families for them. They also help prostitutes and boys who use garbage to make a living. Throughout Mozambique, Heidi and Rolland have setup hospitals and schools.

Heidi and Rolland Baker are a powerful inspiration for many people in Mozambique and those in surrounding countries. Following the example of Heidi and Rolland, hundreds of pastors have started to take care of orphans.
